Introduction of the Friends
A beautiful baby elephant, affectionately known as “Mota Allu” (Fat potato), was sitting quietly inside his house. His mother was resting a short distance away from him. Suddenly, he felt as if someone outside the house was calling him by his name. He immediately hurried to the front door and looked out. Standing there was his very best friend, “Chhotu Bandar” (Little Monkey).
Mota Ullu smiled warmly upon seeing him.
“Oh, you are here! Yes, my friend, I was getting terribly bored sitting at home all by myself, so I thought I would come over to your place,” Chhotu spoke with great sincerity.
“You did wonderful to come, my friend! I was feeling quite bored myself. Come inside, we will chat and pass the time together,” replied Mota Allu, absolutely delighted to see his companion.
A Terrifying Roar
Both friends went into the inner room and began chatting happily while enjoying a variety of delicious fruits that Mota Allu’s mother had placed before them. Suddenly, a terrifying sound echoed through the air—a horrific, booming roar that shook both of their hearts and deeply frightened Mota Allu’s mother. She rushed to them in sheer panic and asked anxiously:
“Did you hear that sound, or are my ears just ringing?”

“We heard it too! It was an incredibly frightening roar!” Chhotu Bandar and Mota Allu exclaimed together.
Suddenly, the same dreadful sound struck their ears once more. It sounded as though a massive beast was crying out in severe pain. Summoning some courage, Chhotu Bandar slowly crept forward and peeked out of the door. The moment he laid eyes on the scene outside, his body began to tremble with intense fear. Driven by curiosity, Mota Allu also approached the door, but as soon as he looked outside, he immediately sprinted back into the room in terror. The monkey followed right behind him, both of them completely out of breath.
“What did you see out there? Tell me!” their mother asked with a shaking voice.
“I saw an extremely terrifying lion,” Mota Allu whispered softly.
“A lion? If you saw a lion, what is there to be so afraid of? Brother Lion lives very peacefully with all the animals in the forest. He gets by eating fish from the river and has never harmed a single inhabitant of this jungle,” his mother said, a tone of relief returning to her voice.
“He is no ordinary lion! I still cannot believe my eyes. His body looks even larger than a full-grown elephant!” Chhotu Bandar explained frantically.
“A lion larger than us? What are you saying? How is that even possible?” she asked as she walked toward the door to see for herself.
Outside stood a massive beast whose physical size was indeed larger than an elephant. It was undeniably a lion, but so giant that it would strike amazement and dread into anyone who looked upon it. Suddenly, it roared again, and its mighty roar made the entire jungle tremble. Mota Allu’s mother ran back to the room, panting and shivering in fear.
“What kind of calamity has befallen us? My mind has completely stopped working!” she cried out in deep distress.
Seeking Wisdom from Kachwa Baba
Mota Allu suddenly stood up and headed toward the back of the house. Seeing him leave so abruptly, Chhotu Bandar and his mother asked, “Where are you going, Mota Allu?”
“I am sneaking out through the back door to go to Kachwa Baba (Grandfather Tortoise). He possesses great wisdom. I am hopeful that he will surely tell us a solution to deal with this mountain-sized lion.”
“I will come with you too,” Chhotu declared, standing up instantly.
The two friends moved stealthily, taking slow and careful steps until they reached Kachwa Baba. The rainwater had largely been absorbed by the earth by now, but there was still enough puddle and mud on the ground to make their journey difficult. Kachwa Baba was nearly two hundred years old. Whenever anyone in the forest faced a hardship or needed advice, they would always go to him. He had grown very old and fell ill frequently, yet he always helped the jungle dwellers whenever they needed him.
At that moment, he was resting on a high, large boulder under the shade of a tree. Seeing the two friends approaching, he sat up. After returning their greetings, he asked:
“Ah, my young friends! I understand exactly why you have come to me. You have undoubtedly rushed here after seeing that terrifying lion. Right now, it is not just you; every single animal in the jungle is deeply frightened by his dreadful voice and massive size.”
“Kachwa Baba! That lion will eat us all up at once! What are we going to do?” Chhotu Bandar asked, looking at him with wide eyes.
Kachwa Baba smiled warmly at his words. “Do not let his giant size frighten you so much. You failed to recognize him. He is actually our very own King Lion!”
Hearing Kachwa Baba’s words, the two friends were utterly astonished. Their King Lion was a beast of normal proportions. How could Kachwa Baba claim that this horrific, giant creature was their king?
The Secret of the Magician
“You look troubled by my words, so I must tell you the whole story. Listen carefully,” Kachwa Baba explained.
“A few days ago, a magician arrived in our forest, wandering in from somewhere. He is not a good human being. He was cast out from the human world multiple times because of his mischievous nature and his habit of troubling people. He told me these things himself when we happened to meet. Out of respect for my old age, he did not harm me. While living in this jungle, he attempted to master a new form of magic. According to this spell, if the magician glares at any object or living being for a short while, it grows many times larger than its original size. Unluckily, his experiment succeeded, and our King Lion became the target of his spell. The king grew larger than any elephant. Immediately after this act, the magician vanished completely. He is likely going to refine this magic further to use it against humans. Now, the real challenge is to find this magician so we can restore King Lion to his original form.”
While they were still talking, the giant lion itself arrived at the spot. When his eyes fell upon Kachwa Baba and the two friends, he spoke gently:
“Children, there is no need to fear me. I am your king. I hope Kachwa Baba has explained everything to you. Please relay this message to all the animals in the forest so they do not feel terrified of me. And yes, tell everyone to search for this magician so he can rid me of this condition and allow me to return to my original state.”
“Rest assured, King Lion! We will inform everyone, and we will personally try our best to track down this magician to rescue you from this trouble,” the two friends promised before setting off into the deeper parts of the forest.
The Search and Discovery
Chhotu Bandar climbed up the tallest trees, scanning the distant horizons, while Mota Allu walked across the jungle to inform the other animals about the situation. Upon learning the truth, most of the animals set out in search of the magician, for they all deeply loved their King Lion.
Perched high upon a very tall tree, Chhotu Bandar suddenly startled as he looked into the distance. Right at the very edge of the forest, a human was lying flat on top of a massive mound of earth. Chhotu thought to himself, “That must surely be the magician!” Actuated by this thought, he scrambled down quickly, located Mota Ullu in no time, and shared his discovery. Mota Allu was filled with excitement upon hearing the news, and both friends sprinted towards the location.
It took them nearly an hour to reach the spot. Before their eyes, on a high dirt mound, lay a man dressed in strange, peculiar clothes, lying face down. Chhotu swiftly climbed up the mound. Moving closer, he realized that the man was completely unconscious. Grabbing him by one hand, Chhotu dragged him down the slope. Mota Ullu understood the situation immediately and leaned over to inspect him.
“He is unconscious. I believe this is indeed the magician who enlarged our king’s body,” Mota Allu observed.
“Yes, I think so too. But first, we must bring him back to consciousness,” Chhotu said before dashing off into the woods.
He returned a short while later carrying a native wild herb—a pod growing from a specific jungle plant. Chhotu crushed the pod and dripped its juice into the magician’s mouth. Within a few minutes, the man regained consciousness and sat up, groaning in pain. He looked at the two animals in utter amazement.
“Who are you two? It seems your efforts have brought me back to my senses,” he said in a remarkably gentle tone.
“Yes, we are the ones who treated you. How did you end up unconscious?” Mota Allu questioned.
“I am a magician. I was attempting to learn a new dark spell. During the ritual, an evil power counter-attacked me, which caused me to lose consciousness,” the man explained.
“Will you grant us a request?” Chhotu Bandar asked.
“Yes, absolutely! You saved my life; you are my benefactors,” the magician replied sincerely.
Mota Allu spoke up: “Because of one of your spells, our King Lion’s body has become terrifyingly huge. Please restore him to how he was before. Secondly, you must either give up this magic altogether or leave this forest and go far away.”
Hearing Mota Allu’s words, the magician bowed his head and sat in deep thought for a while. Then, raising his gaze, he said:
“Humans have always had complaints about this pursuit of mine as well. I have never been able to achieve anything good with this magic; in fact, this time it almost cost me my life. I will certainly follow your advice. But first, I will lift the spell from your King Lion.”
The two friends danced with joy upon hearing his promise.
A Happy Ending
In a short while, the two friends brought the magician back to Kachwa Baba. Resting a short distance away from them was King Lion. The moment his eyes fell upon the trio, he stood up immediately. A ray of hope ignited in his heart that he might finally return to his normal self, as he instantly recognized the magician.
“Kachwa Baba! We have brought the human magician with us. He is deeply remorseful about his past life and how he used magic to trouble others. He has decided to undo the spell on King Lion and renounce magic forever,” Mota Allu announced proudly.
Kachwa Baba and King Lion were overjoyed to hear this. Within moments, using his ritual, the magician successfully restored King Lion back to his original size and form. King Lion thanked the magician profusely. He was exceptionally grateful to Mota Allu and Chhotu Bandar, whose brave and selfless efforts had led the magician to repent of his bad habits and give up dark magic forever.
Moral of the Story
